License Type: Speech Language Pathologist
CE Hours Total=30 hours

  • At least 15 hours shall relate directly to the clinical application of speech language pathology
  • Remaining hours shall relate to general speech language pathology theory and practice
CE Cycle 2 years (corresponds with license timeframe)

Ways to earn CEs: Categories of CEs 

  • Receipt of academic instruction in speech language pathology, as further described in Spe 405.03;
    • Number of CE credits assigned by the college or university
  • Non-academic courses, seminars, conferences, and workshops, as further described in Spe 405.04
    • 1 clock hour of attendance = 1 CE
  • Educational events held at ASHA conventions, as further described in Spe 405.05
    • Number of CE credits assigned by ASHA
  • Facility-based in-service training, including grand rounds, as further described in Spe 405.06
    • 1 clock hour of attendance = 1 CE
  • Successful completion of webinars, teleconferences, teleseminars, video lectures, and video courses, as further described in Spe 405.07
    • Number of CE credits assigned by sponsor or provider
  • New or renewed certification in adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as further described in Spe 405.08
    • To receive credit, provider must be the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the American Safety and Health Institute, the Medic First Aid, or any other nationally recognized organization providing training in infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
    • 1 certification = 4 CE
  • Infection control education, as further described in Spe 405.09
    • 1 clock hour spent receiving education = 1 CE, max 2 CE per renewal cycle
  • Journal study, as further described in Spe 405.10
    • Study of journal article and answering questions= 12 CE, max 12 CE per renewal cycle
  • Training required by the licensee’s employer, as further described in Spe 405.11
    • 1 clock hour spent receiving education = 1 CE, max 2 CE per renewal cycle
  • Publication of journal or magazine article related to speech language pathology, as further described in Spe 405.12;
    • 1 journal or magazine article = 12 CE
  • Public professional presentations relating to speech language pathology, as further described in Spe 405.13;
    • 1 clock hour of presentation = 2 CE, max 8 hours per renewal cycle.  Licensee cannot earn additional CE for repeat presentations
  • Participation in a speech language pathology research project, as further described in Spe 405.14
    • 1 research project = 12 CE
  • Product development, as further described in Spe 405.15
    • 1 product development = 4 CE
  • Teaching a course related to speech-language pathology, as further described in Spe 405.16;
    • 1 clock hour of teaching = 2 CE, max 8 CE per renewal cycle
    • Licensee cannot receive additional credit for repeat presentations during CE cycle

CE Hours Total=12 hours related to the clinical application of Speech Language Pathology

CE Providers for Audiologist or Hearing Aid Dealer Courses

Continuing education shall be offered by approved institutions or be preapproved by the Board.

Approved institutions are:

  • College or university courses
  • American Academy of Dispensing Audiologists
  • American Academy of Audiology;
  • American Speech-Language and Hearing Association
  • American Medical Association
  • American Academy of Otolaryngology
  • International Hearing Society
  • Any other organization credentialed by the above sponsors

If the sponsor is not an approved institution, the sponsor may apply for approval to sponsor an approved continuing education through CE Broker.  Hcp 402.03.

  • Application Requirements.  During the application process, the sponsor shall submit the following:
    • Course title, date, and location
    • Course sponsor and the name and phone number of the course contact person
    • Course agenda
    • Biographical sketches of speakers, including their qualifications
    • Summary of topics to be presented
  • Standards for Approval.  
    • Application is complete
    • Application is received 30 days in advance of the course
    • Subject matter will address topics that will enhance audiologists’ or hearing aid dealers’ ability to practice; and
    • The persons presenting the pertinent subject matter have qualifications relating to both the subject matter and the category of certification of the attendees, through:
      • Formal education with degrees or diplomas
      • Research experience, as demonstrated by publication of peer reviewed research; or
      • Practical experience that demonstrates specialized knowledge in a particular practice area of pertinent subject matter.
