Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

License Type: Certified Recovery Support Worker
CE Hours Total=24 hours

  • 6 hours of Ethics
  • 3 hours of Suicide Prevention
  • 3 hours shall be from Pre-approved Courses
CE Cycle 2 years (corresponds with license timeframe)
Required Subject Areas

★  General Substance Use Counseling
★  Ethics
★  Suicide Prevention

Are the requirements different for the first renewal? No
Can CEs roll over to the next CE cycle? No
Is there a restriction on CE delivery methods (e.g., licensee can only take live courses)? Yes.  No more than 3 hours shall be received in online continuing education courses.  Alc 409.01.
Applicable exemption(s): N/A
Do courses need to be preapproved by the Board?

3 hours of CEs shall be earned through courses preapproved by the Board.  

To obtain preapproval of a course, course sponsors shall submit an application in accordance with Alc 409.03.

Courses offered by the following providers shall be automatically approved if courses relate to one of the 18 categories of competence as outlined in Alc 313.10(j):

  • An IC&RC member board;
  • NAADAC;
  • New Hampshire Training Institute on Addictive Disorders;
  • New Hampshire Center for Excellence;
  • AdCare Educational Institute of New England;
  • NHADACA;
  • Any educational unit of the New Hampshire Community College system;
  • The Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services; or
  • The Addiction Technology Transfer Center

Any other college, university, or school permitted to grant degrees in the disciplines of life science, biological science, sociology, psychology, or public health, provided the course is in any of the performance domains of assessment, counseling, case management, education, or professional responsibility.

CE Cycle 2 years (corresponds with license timeframe)

License Type: Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor
CE Hours Total=48 hours

  • 6 hours of Ethics
  • 6 hours of Suicide Prevention
  • 24 hours shall be from Preapproved Courses
  • 12 hours shall be from the following categories of competence:  
    • Data collection
    • Diagnosis of substance use disorder
    • Knowledge of alcohol and drugs
    • Knowledge of sociological factors
    • Knowledge of physiological factors
    • Knowledge of psychiatric factors
CE Cycle 2 years (corresponds with license timeframe)
Required Subject Areas

Yes.

  • No more than 12 hours shall be received in online continuing education courses, provided courses taken as part of an online degree program shall not count towards this 12-hour maximum.  Alc 409.02(c)
  • Maximum of 10 hours may be earned by presenting CEs.  Alc 409.02(f)
